Jeff Bridges gets gritty in this True Grit theatrical trailer

The Coens. Jeff Bridges. Matt Damon. Josh Brolin. Need I say more?

I do?

Sigh. Okay, well, if you somehow weren't convinced by the excellent teaser trailer that was released last week, then maybe the theatrical trailer for the Coen's adaptation of True Grit will help you see the error of your ways.

The film is based on a novel by Charles Portis, and was adapted once before as a starring vehicle for John Wayne (who won an Oscar for the role), and featured a flat-out awful performance from Kim Darby as a young girl who hires a drunken lout of a US Marshall to help her get revenge on the men who killed her father.

This trailer does a pretty fantastic job of establishing the feel of the film, and shows that the Coens have hewed rather closely to the 1969 original, while putting their own particular spin on the material.

Joel and Ethan have yet to make a truly bad movie (and yes, I'm including The Ladykillers and Intolerable Cruelty in that rather bold statement), and it looks like True Grit will only continue that streak. Furthermore, the last time they teamed up with Jeff Bridges, we got the modern classic that is The Big Lebowski, so I'd say the odds are pretty good that we'll get another great film. That's not even taking that amazing supporting cast into consideration.

True Grit is set to be released in December, hot on the heels of Tron Legacy, which also features Bridges returning to one of his most iconic roles. Until then, you can watch the True Grit trailer below, and if it doesn't get you at least a little bit excited, then you probably just hate good movies.
