Question: When is a kids movie okay to like? Answer: When it's directed by Spike Jonze, stars a Soprano and features Arcade Fire on the soundtrack. New trailer now online: see it after the jump.

I'm not sure I fully understand the frenzied art-wanking behind Where The Wild Things Are. As far as I can remember, and a recent flick through the HMV bookshelf section confirms this, the original Maurice Sendak book was only about 12 pages long. Spike Jonze has stretched the concept to feature length, yet not once have I seen anyone claim he has raped their childhood or given their cherished memories a reach-around.

Sure, when Stephen Sommers remakes The Hungry Caterpillar with 'accelerator butterflies' it's sacrilege, but this? This is fine. Harumph.

Note: The young actor in Where The Wild Things Are is actually called 'Max Records'. There's no way in hell this kid is going to grow up to be anything other than a muso asshole in skinny jeans and guyliner.
