Anything Dean Cain do I can do better... yes, that works...
Thoroughly enjoyed it. While the art direction was 50/50 for me (there's no way it could match the insanity of the comics, and the 95 Dredd for all it's faults got the look *spot on* in everything from the Angel gang, Cursed Earth and the not Hammerstein ABC warrior) it looked the business when I got into it. Very District 9 though for obvious budget reasons.
The relationship between Dredd and Anderson was spot on, and some of Urbans grimaces were lifted straight from the frames of 2000ad and sent me straight back to my childhood / adolescence. It's lacking the humour and satire though, but everyone involved should feel proud that they've brought an iconic British comic character to the screen in such a successful way. Not spoiling, but the ma-ma judgement is just what I'd expect to have read twenty years back and was note perfect.
I'd love to see the trans dimensional Dark Judges done in this style. Especially from Garland who's proven he can write horror, and write horror *well* in 28 Days Later.
Love this quote from the Daily Mail though: -
"It will find an enthusiastic audience, and I imagine Norwegian mass-killer Anders Behring Breivik would admire its philosophy."
What a dick.

Dredd
Awesome. I have my ticket booked for Friday.
It is unfortunate that it'll suffer comparisons to "The Raid", but I urge anyone wanting to support this type of movie (I.e. a comic book movie that hasn't been made for the PG-13 audience) to go see it.
Dredd is a big part of my childhood / adolescence, and the fact that this has been made with respect to the source material (within budget imitations) is a rare thing to celebrate.

The Raid
Absolutely loved it. It had a "Zu Warriors from the Magic Mountain" vibe to it in that it seemed like it was 4 hours or so long but was less than half that. I'm buzzing now, and a movie hasn't done that to me in a long time. The hype is justified in this case.

Prometheus
Awful.
Looked amazing, but the screenplay was terrible. There were at least 4 times I wanted to shout "You're supposed to be scientists, WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING?!"
*Running around with a few "ohh, my sore tummy" moment after major surgery. Bollocks. I know it's SF, but ffs, all it showed was her being stapled up. That was the killer for me.*
*The crowd I was in actually turned, as in voiced their displeasure at the final shot. I've never been in that situation before, it was weird. One lad behind be was repeating "that was shit, just absolute shit. I'm devastated"*
Even for a genre movie (where you expect these things to happen) it was marred by retarded decisions and "because its in the script" moments. 1/5 stars

There's no way this is going to be a pg13 as suggested. This clip actually made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end.
The Cabin In The Woods
This was such a fun hour and a half of entertainment. A movie of cliches subverted and made into something fresh. Laugh out loud funny, but utterly horrific at the same time with multiple nods to other horror movies MAJOR SPOILER *were the creatures throwing up onto the pinned down guys face influenced by 28 days? Where the hell did the killer unicorn come from? Also, the doll mask people pouring petrol over the staff freaked me right out*
There was a major plot point that's been bugging me, but I've a feeling Whedon and Goddard put it in deliberately. What's a horror movie without something ridiculous *The "Purge" button bringing all the creatures down into the complex*

#LFF: Snowtown
Terrible, upsetting movie that's incredibly difficult to watch. It is however superbly made with excellent performances all around. Daniel Henshall in the mentioned strangulation scene is entirely convincing as a psychopath. Cold, dead eyes and utterly zero empathy.
I'll not be watching again, but I'm glad I watched it.

The Skin I Live In
Is it just me or does Banderas have a bit of a Sean Connery look going on there?

I was massively disappointed when Gollum didn't look like this in the final LOTR movie: -
