Bryan Singer to direct Battlestar Galactica reboot

Director Bryan Singer has signed on to direct a remake of the original Battlestar Galactica - yep, the crappy one, not the recent, critically-acclaimed, mega-successful TV series. (*slow clap*).
You have to feel for Bryan Singer, he can't really catch a break. First, he jumped off the X-Men wagon to make Superman Returns, which took audiences all the way to Mehtropolis. Then, to add insult to injury Brett Ratner made X-Men: The Last Stand. Ouch.
And then, of course, there was Valkyrie - the movie destined to be remembered as 'OMG Tom Cruz is a NAZI LOL'. When audiences go and see Inglourious Basterds, they might as well be zapped by one of those Men In Black mind-wipers - that's how memorable Valkyrie was.
Now, HitFix have reported (and Entertainment Weekly have confirmed) that Singer has signed on to direct a reboot of classic sci-fi Battlestar Galactica, one that looks unlikely to have any connection to the hugely sucessful Ron Moore series. Face, meet palm. You two will get on swell.
Even before we know the exact details, this has all the makings of a downer. With Battlestar so fresh in the memory of sci-fi fans, there's no way Singer's take on Galactica won't suffer by comparison. Think of the recent series and you think sexy, relevant, thrilling. Think of the original series and you think crap, cheap, crap.
I'm not convinced what the Battlestar Galactica universe needs is a none-too-subtle metaphor for homosexuality - see X-Men's cringeworthy "Have you tried not being a mutant?" scene for an example. Cylons hiding in plain sight? Singer might as well call them Gaylons.
