David Fincher to direct The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo next

David Fincher has at least one more serial killer film in the locker, as he'll reportedly be directing the US adaptation of Steig Larsson's The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. And it's his next film, too.
It was rumoured a while back that Fincher was circling the American remake of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, but it's only now that The Playlist have begun reporting it as fact. They seem pretty sure of themselves, anyway. They know lies make baby Jesus cry.
What's more, the rest of the numerous projects David Fincher has on the go (Heavy Metal, the Tobey Maguire/Bobby Fischer story) will have to wait, because The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is too hot a property. There's no solid news on casting yet, but Carey Mulligan - rumoured purely because she's the only short-haired actress the internet bullshit machine could think of at the time - has allegedly taken herself out of the running.
Rumours persist that George Clooney and Brad Pitt are still in the frame, and with David Fincher on board, the latter certainly seems more likely.
I'm following this one closely, because I loved the first film and thoroughly enjoyed the book, finding it to be quite faithful to the source material. I'm almost done with book two, The Girl Who Played With Fire (already adapted for the screen in its native Swedish along with book three, The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest) and while it's less cinematic than the first novel, it's still got a thumping good narrative behind it.
Expect the full trilogy to get the remake treatment if Hank McAmerican doesn't find it too 'European' for his tastes.
