Eli Roth wants to clown around with the creators of Clown

Chalk up another entry in the suddenly burgeoning "fake trailer becomes real movie" sub-genre.
A few weeks back, a trailer for a movie about a killer clown surfaced on the Youtubes, and it got a lot of buzz due to the fact that it was attributed to writer/director/producer/bad actor Eli Roth (Hostel, Hostel 2).
It turned out that the trailer was a fake, and had nothing whatsoever to do with Roth. Until now, that is. Roth loved the trailer so much that he's going to help Jon Watts and Christopher D. Ford - the guys behind the hoax - expand Clown into a full-length feature.
Apparently, Watts and Ford are hoping to lay the groundwork for an enduring horror character along the lines of Freddy Krueger or Jason Voorhees, and I'd say they've got a pretty great shot at accomplishing this goal. It's a well known fact that everyone in the world hates clowns (or as Gary Oldman might say, EEEEVRYYYYOOONNNE!), so they're definitely on the right track.
Of course, if the original trailer is any indication, it certainly looks like these guys have found the perfect ingredient for a new horror icon to haunt people's nightmares for years to come.
It will be very interesting to see how this all turns out. Roth is a spotty director at best, and his producing credits aren't much better. However, the original fake trailer was pretty great, hitting all the right beats and actually managing to be creepy and effective in less than two minutes. Don't believe me? Well, you can check it out for yourself below.
