Cult favourite Fright Night is getting the remake treatment, but with an usual hmm-maybe-it-won't-be-so-bad-after-all twist: Mad Men and Buffy the Vampire Slayer writer Marti Noxon has signed on to work the script.
It's easy to see why Fright Night has been deemed worthy of an 'update', considering its inexplicable fan appeal, nearly 25 years later. Plus, y'know, vampires an' stuff. Apparently, they're quite popular now.
Despite the frankly camp storyline, the film's great-for-its-day make-up has stood the test of time and much of the humour still holds up. It's greatest legacy, however, is Stephen Geoffreys.
Playing Evil Ed Thompson like he was permanently on speed, Geoffreys stole every scene and had previously been nominated for a Best Actor Tony Award...but in a startling change of career, he eventually wound up starring in several hardcore gay porn flicks.
Check out his resume on IMDB - it's hilarious. Special mentions go to the grammatically playful Mechanics Bi Day, Lube Job Bi Night and the slightly more tell-it-like-it-is Guys Who Crave Big Cocks.
Anyway...whereas most fans of the original 1985 Fright Night would balk at the idea of their beloved 80s-tastic horror being remade, they can surely take some solace in Marti Noxon's proven credentials.
I still haven't got round to seeing the apparently excellent Mad Men, but she scripted some great episodes for Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, and was pretty much, for many years, Joss Whedon's right-hand woman. If you're gonna trust a fun, funny, scary vampire film in the hands of anyone, short of Joss himself, this is your gal.
Not much more I can say on this now...so let's go through Geoffreys' filmography again. Butt Blazer? Leather Buddies? Latin Crotch Rockets?! Brilliant.
