Controversial director Roman Polanski has been arrested while attending a film festival in Switzerland on a 31 year-old statutory rape charge. The whereabouts of japester Ashton Kutcher are as yet unknown.
Justice has finally caught up with Roman Polanski. In Switzerland to accept a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Zurich Film Festival, Polanski was instead rewarded with a night in the cells as he was placed in custody due to his outstanding 1977 rape case. Someone just got majorly merked.
32 years ago, Polanski admitted having underage sex (including anal intercourse) with a 13 year-old girl in America, but fled to France before the sentencing. He's not set foot in the USA since but has continued to make films, even winning the Best Director Oscar in 2002 for The Pianist. Surprisingly, he did not attend the ceremony.
He did, however, let his guard down this week in Zurich, apparently unaware that Switzerland has an extradition treaty with the US. Bizarrely, the festival announced their plans to go ahead and honour Polanski's tribute, despite his international shame. Those crazy Swiss.
Although the woman in question has since asked for the case to be dismissed, a US judge recently rejected Polanski's request for the charges to be dropped. Presumably, the judge saw Polanski's cameo in Rush Hour 3, in which he played a French customs officer and made an anal sex gag. Stay classy, Roman!
It's a hot potato of a topic, so I asked my fiancé what she thought and she said, "Oh, it was ages ago, get over it," and then went and played with the cats. In conclusion, then: my fiancé likes cats.
