Review: The Two Popes entertains, occasionally enlightens
Movie Review | Luke Whiston | 15th January 2020
They're just two normal fellas, these guys. Sure they live in gigantic palaces and take part in rituals affecting the lives of millions of people based on doctrines written hundreds of years ago in the belief a giant bearded ghost man watches everything you do in the bathroom, but they like a pint just like you and I. Who cares if you're expected to bow and kiss their ring to show respect else you'll go to hell if they like to watch the big match? They're just two normal fellas. Two normal fellas in charge of a 2000-year-old nonce festival.

Marvel's Cine-CHAT-ic Universe: Thor: The Dark World (2013)
Movie Feature | Matt Looker, Ali Gray, Becky Suter, Luke Whiston, Ed Williamson | 11th February 2019
You wouldn't think we could be less efficient in meeting our goals re: this recurring feature, but we managed it - please enjoy this torturous discussion on Thor: The Dark World, a chat which was called "uninspired" by one of its own members while he was still discussing it.

Marvel's Cine-CHAT-ic Universe: Thor (2011)
Movie Feature | Matt Looker, Ali Gray, Becky Suter, Ed Williamson | 3rd September 2018
Marvel's Cine-CHAT-ic Universe is back! After last covering Iron Man 2 back in... holy shit, November? It's been nearly a year? Ok, it's about time we brought this back to continue our efforts in discussing each of the MCU films in turn, now finishing before our NEW deadline of Avengers 4. That should be fine. Just fine. Quick, let's talk Thor!

We really need to talk again about Transformers: The Last Knight
Movie Feature | Matt Looker | 17th July 2017
This year has seen the first female-led superhero movie, two Apocalypse Now inspired monkey movies, a curtain call for Logan, a launch of Universal's Dark Universe, and the return of Cars, Captain Jack, Renton and Xander Cage. And yet there's only one film I can't get out of my head right now.

Transformers: The Last Knight
Movie Review | Ali Gray | 21st June 2017
Michael Bay finally did it: he exploded history. Not content with retconning the dinosaurs in the last part of his ever-growing Transformers universe, Bay has now officially changed the course of human history. The Last Knight not only rewrites Arthurian legend (myth, history, whatever), it puts an Autobot spin on World War II, the mystery of Stonehenge and even Stephen Hawking, via scenes that stretch from the depths of outer space to the bottom of the ocean. It's a miracle there isn't a scene where we find out Jesus was a robot too: the Crucifixicon. It is, I shouldn't have to say but will, an extraordinary payload of absolute horseshit: a Buster Gonad-style wheelbarrow of bollocks that will leave you flabbergasted as to how incoherent, lazy and contemptuous it is. I should say, however, that I haven't laughed so much in a cinema in years.

Five other Marvel spin-offs in which the most interesting person just left
TV Feature | Ed Williamson | 19th May 2014
In Marvel's Agent Carter, announced last week as a star vehicle for the quite splendid Hayley Atwell, Peggy Carter must "balance doing administrative work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark all while trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life - Steve Rogers". You've got to hand it to them: they're confident enough that we're on board with their 14 movies a year that they'll try a TV series where the most interesting person has just nipped out to the shops. Here's five more they've got in the pipeline.

Hitchcock
Movie Review | Matt | 9th February 2013
No one can deny that Psycho is one of the most groundbreaking, evocative horror movies ever made, so just think of the exciting story behind the business decisions involved in filming it. All that dramatic paperwork, all those engrossing lighting set-ups, the thrilling process of rewriting script drafts. And imagine that incredible, never-saw-it-coming twist ending when the movie definitely gets made.

Films on TV round-up: ITV's fiendish masterplan
TV Feature | Ed Williamson | 24th July 2011
Someone at ITV's had a Eureka moment. "I've got it! We must start showing great films! But then we must show their increasingly poor sequels throughout the same week so that people's memory of the original is steadily soured! Start with a good idea then pump enough cheap, tacky shit into it that it becomes an artless, unrelenting cash-cow! For is that not the ITV way?"

Thor
Movie Review | Matt | 20th April 2011
The main problem Marvel faces in rounding up its Avengers is this introduction to the Norse God of Thunder. Can Thor exist in Iron Man's more rational world of implausible tech and high-science? Well, the question seems to be: is a near-omnipotent, hammer-wielding space Viking any less believable than a billionaire shooting lasers from his flying robot suit? As it turns out, no. They're both utterly ridiculous. Now sit back, shut up and enjoy.
