  • Snitch

    Movie Review | Ed Williamson | 17th June 2013

I've watched a few WWE 'shoot' documentaries recently. They feature men whom I spent hours of my childhood watching get greased up and pretend to ram their elbows into one another's kidneys, now older and with faces like meat, talking candidly about the roles they were playing. It's striking how different they all are from their in-ring characters: remarkably good actors, in a way. The move from ring to action movies is a natural one, and Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson has always been the one most qualified to make it. But on the evidence of Snitch, he's forgotten one key piece of The Rock's credo: know your damn role.

  • Fast & Furious 6

    Movie Review | Ali | 13th May 2013

If you've never seen a Fast & Furious movie, Vin Diesel and Paul Walker play two alpha males who wish they could have energetic bum sex with one another, but have to settle for driving around big shiny penis extensions instead. Over five homoerotic odysseys, they've recruited various friends from around the world into their gang, all of whom perform one specific function, whether it be 'tech', 'comic relief' or 'looking hot'. In Fast & Furious 6, they team up with chief Fast Five antagonist Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson to hunt down Luke 'The Crow' Evans, an evil man who needs a computer chip to do evil things and who doesn't care how many cars he has to flip over to get it. There, you're up to speed – and that speed just happens to be TWO HUNDRED MILES PER HOUR.

Jeez guys, the least you could do is look at the camera while having your poster taken. Sung Kang? More like Sulk-King! #LOL (Large pic here)

  • G.I. Joe: Retaliation

    Movie Review | Matt | 27th March 2013

When this movie was pulled from release last summer weeks before it was due to hit cinemas, the internet was rife with theories about why. Was it just because the studio decided to post-convert to grab a slice of the 3D pie? Or did Channing Tatum become such a big star that reshoots were necessary to pad out his role in the film? Whatever the reason, it's safe to say that the subsequent nine months were NOT spent trying to make sure that this baffling, ridiculous juggernaut of mindlessness made a lick of sense. Because, despite having an extra nine months to somehow improve on itself, G.I. Joe: Retaliation ended up providing some of the most fun I have ever had watching one of the worst films I have ever seen.

  • Journey 2: The Mysterious Island

    Movie Review | Rob | 3rd February 2012

Michael Caine has had a long, glittering career spanning five decades. He's been nominated for an Academy Award in every decade since the 1960s. He's even a Knight of The Realm. The man truly is an icon of British cinema. Surely, though, flying a giant bee and high-fiving The Rock has to be his greatest achievement to date.

  • Fast & Furious 5: Rio Heist

    Movie Review | Rob | 21st April 2011

Fast Five? Fast & Furious 5? 5ast 5ive? Fa5t & Fiveriou5? Whatever the hell you decide to call it, this macho, manly franchise shows no signs of pulling into the slow lane. Grrrr!

  • The Other Guys

    Movie Review | Christopher Ratcliff | 21st September 2010

Before leaving the house this morning to see Will Ferrell's 403rd high-concept comedy this century, I quickly glanced at today's Guardian, the film and music section to be more precise, where the esteemed film critic Peter Bradshaw gave The Other Guys an unprecedented 5 stars. Gosh. Being as I want to be just like Peter Bradshaw (P-Braddy) when I does grow up, I figured I'd have to give it 5 stars too, no matter what I actually thought of the film.

  • Get Smart

    Movie Review | Rob | 21st August 2008

Mel Brooks' long-running '60s TV spy-com gets a big-screen re-jig for a ADD-afflicted generation that's most likely unaware of its existence. Director Peter Segal (The Longest Yard, 50 First Dates) takes on the tricky task of adapting a TV show for a Cold War era into an action comedy aimed at a younger audience, but it's fair t...
