Haywire trailer: Steven Soderbergh's MMA movie (seriously)
Movie Trailer | Ali | 23rd July 2011
Famed indie auteur Steven Soderbergh must have got tired of thinking outside the box and fighting the system, because he's directed an action movie starring a female MMA fighter. I can't decide whether it looks amazing or like something Steven Seagal would pass on.

Look, it's late, our pun machine broke down and these lollystick gags aren't helping, no matter how many packs of Mini Milks we get through.

The Ghost
Movie Review | Anna | 18th April 2010
Polanski's first film in five years has been met with a very mixed response. Little White Lies said "the whole movie is actually Polanski being, well, shit." The Guardian, however, considers the movie to be Polanski's "most purely enjoyable film for years." I'm going to have to embrace my inner Lib Dem and come down squarely in the middle with a solid-but-not-mind-blowing three stars.

I Love You Phillip Morris
Movie Review | Rob | 18th March 2010
Oscar nominations for gay cowboys and a win for Sean Penn's gay politician; Hollywood loves homosexuals, as long as it's all kept clean. I Love You Phillip Morris gained massive plaudits at Sundance last year but struggled to find a US distributor comfortable with its somewhat graphic content.

The Men Who Stare At Goats
Movie Review | Rob | 11th November 2009
Ewan McGregor, you may remember, is actually an actor, and a pretty good one at that. When he's not gallivanting around the world with Charley Boorman on a bike, getting a sore arse, he does occasionally find time to make a film or two.

George Clooney is back in the Middle East, but he's not stealing Kuwaiti bullion or trying to win an Oscar; he's trying to kill a goat with his mind. It's a comedy! Hooray!

Angels & Demons
Movie Review | Ali | 6th May 2009
Tom Hanks adopts his serious face: "I need to get to a library... fast!" Never has one line damned a film so completely. The book might have sold 83 billion copies, but The Da Vinci Code movie was turgid, self-important and - oddly, for a movie about the lineage of Jesus Christ - terminally dull. I'm happy to report, t...

The Island
Movie Review | Ali | 13th August 2005
Choose life. Choose a fucking big television. Choose a flash new car. Choose a yacht. Choose a clone. It looks like Renton's got into a bit more trouble than a skag habit this time, as he joins director Michael Bay for the big no-brain blockbuster of the summer. The Island marks Michael Bay's first attempt to tackle an imp...
