Frances Ha
Movie Review | Ali | 25th July 2013
Could Frances Ha be the Greta-ist, Gerwiggiest film ever made? A black and white light-hearted indie comedy about a blundering yet loveable New York ballet teacher? It sounds like the kind of hardcore mumblecore destined to be of interest to all but the most entrenched Brooklynites, but Frances Ha is an unlikely feelgood crowd-pleaser - it's sweet and funny and darling and almost unbearably lovely. And thankfully, everyone enunciates.

Arthur
Movie Review | Rob | 22nd April 2011
How you choose to take this remake of Dudley Moore's 1981 classic hinges entirely on your tolerance for a certain Russell Brand. Granted, his Arthur 2.0 is a slightly toned-down version of himself, and the pelvic thrusts, sex-mad antics, swearing and prank calls to aging comedians are at a minimum, but if you outright don't like the bloke, a top hat, tails and a cane is hardly going to change that.

No Strings Attached
Movie Review | Ali | 2nd March 2011
I'm not about to make apologies for No Strings Attached - it's a soulless movie with zero charm and almost no merits; a film which, if deleted from existence, wouldn't even make the smallest ripple in the space-time continuum. However, speaking from Natalie Portman's point of view, I can understand why she made it. After 12 months of hardcore ballet training for Black Swan, she just wanted to slum it. Acting opposite Ashton Kutcher is the equivalent of dropping down a year in school for someone like her.

The House Of The Devil
Movie Review | Christopher | 24th March 2010
1983 is a strange year in which to set your retro love-letter to horror. Gore nostalgia fans will note that the slasher hey-day was a few years previous. 1983 saw a slew of misfiring sequels to previously popular franchises; Halloween III, Jaws 3D, Psycho II and some tacky Stephen King adaptations.
