Cuban Fury
Movie Review | Ali Gray | 16th February 2014
I am an impressionable idiot. Take me to a martial arts movie, I'll come out Kung Fu fighting. Take me to a spy thriller, I'll be eyeing everyone with suspicion in the car park. You don't want to know what I'll do after I see Nymphomaniac. Naturally then, Nick Frost's comedy Cuban Fury - a movie set in and around the world of salsa dancing and rumba rhythms - had me swaying my hips and sashaying down the Jubilee Line all the way home, where I suggested to my wife we take dancing lessons. Me! Someone whose one and only dance move was nicknamed 'The Ali Shuffle'! Cuban Fury may not have the long shelf life of Frost's Cornetto movies, but during that all-too-brief post-movie glow, it serves as a wonderful example of feelgood comedy done right.

Interview: Drinking in The World's End with Nick Frost
Movie Feature | Rob Young | 30th November 2013
Nick Frost is only the fourth person I've ever interviewed. He didn't laugh at my questions, he liked my Beastie Boys t-shirt, said 'The Shiznit'. We became firm friends...I think.Obligatory note: The World's End is out to own on DVD and Blu-ray now. Unobligatory note: It's ace.

The World's End
Movie Review | Matt | 9th July 2013
"Want anything from the shop?" For fans of Shaun Of The Dead and Hot Fuzz, there is only one answer to that question, such is the cult cultural impact these films have had on the collective film nerd consciousness. And now, here we are with the conclusion of the so-called Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy in the offing and the pressure is on. This is basically as eagerly awaited as the never-going-to-happen third series of Spaced. So would we like anything from the shop? Yes, we'd like a film that's just as sharp, funny and quotable as the previous two instalments, please. Thankfully, Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg have returned with just what we asked for.

Why does The Guardian hate Tintin?
Movie Feature | Ali | 1st November 2011
You may have already seen Steven Spielberg's new movie, The Adventures Of Tintin: The Secret Of The Unicorn. It's good, huh? Well, The Guardian couldn't disagree more: in fact, they've dedicated
FOURSIX separate op-ed pieces on why they disliked it so much. Protest much? -
The Adventures Of Tintin: The Secret Of The Unicorn
Movie Review | Ali | 16th October 2011
Despite a directorial career that spans – holy shit, 40 years? – The Adventures Of Tintin: The Secret Of The Unicorn is Steven Spielberg's first animated film. Techniques have come and gone over the years, barriers have been broken, box-office records and preconceptions shattered alike, but only now has Spielberg decided the medium is ready for him – and he's picked his moment well. For all of the good work done by Robert Zemeckis, Peter Jackson and James Cameron, it is Spielberg who has justified the existence of motion-capture technology: The Adventures Of Tintin is a relentlessly thrilling, rip-roaring yarn that's as close as anyone has ever come to bringing a comic-book to life.

Films on TV round-up: capering cops and caped crusaders
TV Feature | Ed Williamson | 5th June 2011
Ever wondered why this feature never covers any films from the Sunday? OK, I'll rephrase that: ever given a moment's consideration to the content of anything in this feature? In this whole fucking website, beyond a fleeting thought of 'Ha ha, I like it when they say Ashton Kutcher's a dickhead'? No? Well, I'll tell you anyway. It's because I write it on Sundays, and the listings on tvguide.co.uk only go as far as the next week. Not that you care. Hope you choke on it.

Attack the Block
Movie Review | Matt | 11th May 2011
Let’s consider what could be the making of a cult film, shall we? High concept? Check. Low-budget? Almost always. A hyper-stylised language? Most definitely. Written and directed by one half of a cult comedy duo? Erm...sure. Aliens? Hell yes. And yet, while all signs point to ‘culty’ for this film, it actually has all the mainstream appeal of a brilliant comedy and a terrifying supernatural horror. And being both at once is just sheer bloody genius.
