  • Review: El Camino is a familiar dose that goes down easy (drugs)

    Movie Review | Luke Whiston | 27th October 2019

It would make absolutely no difference to anything whether Breaking Bad spin-off movie El Camino existed or not. If in a few years' time show creator Vince Gilligan responded to a fan question at a Comic Con panel with his plan for Jesse instead, the cultural impact would be much the same. That said, Gilligan can direct the hell out of the world he created and this re-visit is a reminder of the show's absorbing style, and of one of the central tenets of Bad: how much chaos can one person cause?

  • BoJack Horseman: season one

    TV Review | Ed Williamson | 2nd September 2014

It's a cartoon about a drunk horse, but I still think it has something interesting to say about contemporary celebrity. I will not let this Media Studies degree go to waste.

  • Aaron Paul bloody loves Derek for some reason

    TV Feature | Ed Williamson | 6th June 2014

This is despite the self-evident fact that it is an awful, cloying mess which paws guilelessly at your tear ducts like a baby ape trying to coax milk from an unyielding teat.

  • Need For Speed

    Movie Review | Matt Looker | 8th March 2014

Considering the Fast And Furious series has effectively already won the race of the 'fast car movie' genre, do we really need another film about driving? Do we really need more shots of someone shifting a gearstick a dozen times, of feet slamming down on pedals, of screeching, smoking tyres? In essence, is there really a Need for more Speed?

  • Breaking Babble

TV Feature | Ed Williamson, Matt Looker, Ali Gray, Luke Whiston | 2nd October 2013

We did a quick look round the internet the other day and realised that practically no one is writing anything about Breaking Bad. Way to drop the ball, other websites: it's a pretty big deal, you know! Lucky you've got us around to discuss the face off it. (Spoilers all over the place, obviously.)

  • Breaking Bad: The Fifth Season DVD

    TV Review | Ed Williamson | 4th June 2013

With only eight episodes to go, I have no idea whatsoever how Breaking Bad's going to finish this year, and even less how I'm going to fill the empty shell of a life it'll leave behind for me. Maybe I'll try and recreate key scenes in the shed.

  • Smashed

    Movie Review | Ed Williamson | 12th December 2012

Like an idiot, having been too busy eating free crisps to read the press notes beforehand, I couldn't remember Mary Elizabeth Winstead's name or where I'd seen her before until the closing credits of Smashed. This is the sort of thing that will usually gnaw at me for the duration of a movie, but in this case it was easily forgotten: hers is a stellar performance in a film that refuses to take the obvious path, and is all the more engaging for it.

  • Corn Pops a gateway drug to crystal meth, it is revealed

    TV Video | Ed Williamson | 8th June 2012

  • What I did on my holidays: watched Breaking Bad

    TV Feature | Ed Williamson | 20th May 2012

You know how sometimes we write long, overly earnest and not-all-that-funny stuff about TV shows just because we like them a lot, and partly because we've been given free DVDs and we're total whores for that sort of thing? Yeah, well, apologies in advance. But, if we hadn't made it clear enough over the last week or so, you really should watch Breaking Bad.
