#LFF2012: Argo
Movie Review | Ali | 17th October 2012
How could it be that Ben Affleck – he of being the bomb in Phantoms, yo – has become the most exciting American director working today? The former himbo and male half of Bennifer made one of the all-time greatest career turnarounds when he ditched the smug action hero roles and gave honest to goodness filmmaking a shot; first with sensational kidnapping drama Gone Baby Gone, then with palm-sweatingly tense heist thriller The Town. Affleck has gone one better with his third film as director, moving from the frying pan of Boston into the fire of Iran for his most ambitious – and awards-worthy – movie yet.

Interview with Bryan Cranston: no big deal, happens all the time
TV Feature | Ed Williamson | 16th October 2012
Bryan Cranston's performance as Walter White in Breaking Bad is one of the best in the history of television. And as it turns out, he's a stand-up guy too: warm, funny and happy to answer questions. Oh, and he laughed at something I said. I'm brilliant.

Malcolm in the Middle: The Complete First Season DVD
TV Review | Ed Williamson | 30th September 2012
You fools. You had no idea of the sharp, biting allegory at the heart of Malcolm in the Middle, did you? No, thought not. Lucky you've got me around.

TV actors talk about TV acting on TV for like an hour
TV Video | Ed Williamson | 25th September 2012
I went looking for Damian Lewis's Emmy acceptance speech, and came away with so much more. Some of the best TV actors around, just shootin' the shit. -
Win Malcolm in the Middle season one on DVD
TV Feature | Ed Williamson | 24th September 2012
Win a thing you can actually enjoy in the comfort of your own home, unlike the Homeland Imperial War Museum thing, which was ace but it basically required you to live in London. You should live here anyway though. We've got a big ferris wheel and everything.

Detachment
Movie Review | Ed Williamson | 11th July 2012
'Elegiac': one of those words of whose meaning you've never quite been certain, but you're fairly sure you'd know the thing it describes when you saw it. Now, I reckon Detachment is pretty elegiac. It certainly felt like it. The word kept popping into my head the whole time I was watching it. So bear with me for 900 words or so while I try to figure out whether it was, then I'll look it up. Oh, and if the promise of a dictionary definition's not enough for you, this is one of the best films I've seen all year. Just saying.

Walter White now enormously badass, videos suggest
TV Video | Ed Williamson | 18th June 2012
He was a high-school chemistry teacher, now he's Scarface. Say hello to his little friend; all he has in this world are his word and his balls; who does he trust? Him: that's who, and other things douchey rappers say all the time.

Red Tails
Movie Review | Rob | 8th June 2012
A long time ago in a ranch far, far away...
It is a dark time for George Lucas. Forced to put his
WWII project on hold and desperate to tell the stories of
the Tuskegee Airmen, the first African-American fighter pilot
squadron, Lucas was told 'No' by the evil studios, who deemed
a film with an all black cast unmarketable. 23 years later, a time
when Hollywood wasn't quite so racist, Lucas finally made his film,
thanks to galactic bucks from his own, overflowing Death Star wallet. -
Unnecessary and tiresome dissection of Breaking Bad season five poster
TV Feature | Ed Williamson | 7th June 2012
It's a guy in a deckchair. But not just ANY guy. It's Bryan Cranston. And not just ANY deckchair. Wait ... no, that is just an ordinary deckchair. Or IS it? Look, click if you want to, but it's not going to get any better.

What I did on my holidays: watched Breaking Bad
TV Feature | Ed Williamson | 20th May 2012
You know how sometimes we write long, overly earnest and not-all-that-funny stuff about TV shows just because we like them a lot, and partly because we've been given free DVDs and we're total whores for that sort of thing? Yeah, well, apologies in advance. But, if we hadn't made it clear enough over the last week or so, you really should watch Breaking Bad.
