Review: Dolemite Is My Name is a rose-tinted celebration of flawed ambition
Movie Review | Luke Whiston | 5th November 2019
Is Eddie Murphy back? Judging by the last few months he's made a great deal of effort to distance himself from his 1980s sexism-laced standup routines, so he's definitely trying to come back. You can be cynical about it and say this is housekeeping in an attempt to reinvent his image for the new age of woke comedy, or you can accept he's genuinely trying to make amends and move onwards and upwards together into Liberal PC Heaven, where there are no guns and all the Pokemon you can catch. Whatever it is I'm not sure the best way to do it is via a celebration of blaxploitation; a genre laced with sexism.

Beverly Hills Cop Junior to be someone other than Donald Glover
TV News | Ed Williamson | 28th January 2013
This is Brandon T Jackson, who is not Donald Glover, but has been confirmed as the non-Donald-Glover-being star of CBS's forthcoming Glover-free Beverly Hills Cop TV series. Eddie Murphy will executive-produce in a Glover vacuum and occasionally reprise his role as Axel Foley, but will not play Donald Glover's father, by virtue of Donald Glover not being in it. Donald Glover was not available for comment, but Brandon T Jackson said some shit or other.

Tower Heist
Movie Review | Matt | 4th November 2011
For someone who has starred in some of the best comedies of the past decade, Ben Stiller is hardly a guarantee of good quality. For every couple of Zoolanders, there's a Meet The Fockers. And now he's brought Eddie Murphy out of retirement from credibility to try to remember how to be grown-up funny. Sans fatsuit and everything. With so-so action-comedy director Brett Ratner calling the shots, this is destined for the bargain bin, isn't it? Get ready to be shocked and amazed...

No Beverly Hills Cop 4 movie! Boooo! TV show instead! Um ... yaaaay!
TV News | Ed Williamson | 27th October 2011
Never one to flog a dead horse, Eddie Murphy has confirmed that instead of Beverly Hills Cop 4 being a movie, it'll be a TV show. Which we will all watch as long as he PROMISES to throw in a couple of fat-suit scenes.

Films on TV round-up: it was acceptable in the eighties
TV Feature | Ed Williamson | 2nd October 2011
Shit, I haven't written this in about a month, have I? Films are the ones that are a bit longer than TV shows, right? Usually got Ryan Gosling in them? OK, I got this.

Has Eddie Murphy come to his senses?
Movie News | Matt | 19th November 2009
Eddie Murphy is back on the scene, but wait - it's not Imagine That 2: The Reimagining. It's a R-rated movie! That's good, right? It's called The Misadventures Of Fluffy and features talking animals. (*packs bags*)

Marlon Wayans to play Richard Pryor

Scared his career might actually recover, Eddie Murphy drops out of the Richard Pryor biopic, leaving the role to the second unfunniest black man in America, Marlon Wayans. Martin Lawrence was next in line.

Meet Dave
Movie Review | Rob | 27th July 2008
As sickening as it may sound, Eddie Murphy is officially the most successful movie star ever. With almost $3.5bn of box-office bounty to his name, Murphy tops cinema's all-time biggest earners league. How? A steady mixture of his raucous '80s output, no-holds barred stand-up routines and family friendly films of the '90s and bey...
