Marvel's Cine-CHAT-ic Universe: The Incredible Hulk (2008)
Movie Feature | Ali Gray, Matt Looker, Becky Suter, Ed Williamson | 10th October 2017
It's official: part two of this new feature means it definitely qualifies as a 'regular', although we haven't quite pinned down how often we'll be catching up with the Marvel movies - it basically comes down to when ITV2 get round to showing the next one. And as nobody came up with a better title, it's time to HULK SMASH the 'Read full article' button and enjoy the next chapter of (*winces*) Marvel's Cine-CHAT-ic Universe: The Incredible Hulk.

Birdman
Movie Review | Matt Looker | 2nd January 2015
If I were a pretentious Film Studies student, I would discuss Birdman's importance at great length to anybody within earshot. I would write an entire thesis about the many ways in which it deconstructs the cinematic form and then I would go to parties and bore people with smug declarations like "Birdman is the best superhero movie ever made", proudly enjoying my own unique, daring perspective on the genre. Sadly, I am not a pretentious Film Studies student. I am, however, a pretentious film reviewer, so I still get to do all of those things and I don't even have to worry about getting graded afterwards. [B- for that intro - Ed]

The Bourne Legacy
Movie Review | Ali | 11th August 2012
Despite its lineage, The Bourne Legacy has received a frosty reception from critics thus far and has had an almost completely anonymous marketing presence – rather than dynamically burst into cinemas next week, rolling up its poster and ramming it down audiences' throats, it shuffles in apologetically to be met with highly suspicious glares. This is entirely unnecessary, because while Legacy couldn't ever hope to match the Paul Greengrass/Matt Damon movies for sheer punch and propulsion, it's as close to replicating them as you could expect, and marks another excellent entry into the Bourneography.

Films on TV round-up: gamma poisoning and Nazi footballers
TV Feature | Ed Williamson | 22nd January 2012
I wrote this on my phone while on the tube today. Lest it be forgotten, the guy who got on at Green Park and sat next to me, reading the Financial Times so expansively as to have his right hand more or less directly in front of my face throughout his entire journey, is a dick.

Films on TV round-up: ITV's fiendish masterplan
TV Feature | Ed Williamson | 24th July 2011
Someone at ITV's had a Eureka moment. "I've got it! We must start showing great films! But then we must show their increasingly poor sequels throughout the same week so that people's memory of the original is steadily soured! Start with a good idea then pump enough cheap, tacky shit into it that it becomes an artless, unrelenting cash-cow! For is that not the ITV way?"

GRRR! HULK RECAST! Ed Norton won't return for The Avengers
Movie News | Ali | 10th July 2010
Looks like the carefully weaved network of Marvel movies leading up to The Avengers is coming undone already. The Hulk will return, but Ed Norton will not. But who will? Eh screw it, who even cares?
