Every once in a while, a trailer comes along and knocks me sideways. Michael Winterbottom's The Killer Inside Me is one such trailer. Also, it has Jessica Alba getting spanked, but that's not why I like it. Honest.
I'll confess to not having even heard of The Killer Inside Me until about ten minutes ago, but having done a little online sleuthing, I can see it's a '50s-set adaptation of the Jim Thompson novel - he's the guy who also wrote The Grifters and The Getaway. It also looks incredible.
The story follows 29 year-old small-town sheriff Lou Ford, played by Casey Affleck. An unhinged sociopath with a beaming, friendly public face, he's like the Patrick Bateman of Texas.
The five-minute reel below kind of says more than a hastily-written synopsis ever could, and don't worry about it giving up too much of the plot, because there's apparently far more to the story than what's revealed here.
I can't let this update go without mentioning Jessica Alba's involvement: this is most definitely the kind of adult, NSFW-in-nature role that she needs to be taking to steer her away from god-awful gross-out comedies and shite thrillers.
Still, any money some screen caps from the trailer end up in next week's Nuts magazine.
