Review: Alice In Wonderland 3D

Alice In Wonderland 3D
Stop me if you've heard this one before. A literary adaptation by Tim Burton, set in a twisted, multi-coloured alternate universe, starring Johnny Depp as a borderline weirdo and Helena Bonham Carter as a loud-mouthed, pasty-faced kook. Sound familiar?

I only came on this site this morning to vent my rage at this piece of shit.

It was such a bad film. Alice was a horrible character and the actress was pretty dire. The whole world felt empty and hollow to me. The story was the same as everything else and Depp's dance thing was so awkward I was nearly sick.

The White and Red Queens were amusing at times but that was about it. Oh and the ginger red bloke reminded me of David Camera.

" Hey let's go to China "
" By gosh... what an idea little girl who just embarrased my son "

She became an android, got attached by an alien and started shop lifting. And got less hot.

Guh. I write one Where Are They Now? feature for work every month. I already KNOW where everyone is.

She's been in a load of films that no-one has watched. She's also getting too old now to play the kooky weirdo.

There's an idea for your next feature, Ali. Where Are They Now?

Stylistically & emotionally he hasn't moved on since Beetlejuice, which still stands as one of my favourite films.
It's all there, the black & white stripes, gothic wonky trees & houses (on the tabletop model Shouty Baldwin is building), amusing side characters that take juvenile potshots at suburbia, lonely central character, Danny Elfman musical score.
Even has the Johnny Depp connection with him & Winona Ryder being an item at the time.

Actually, what became of Winona Ryder? Heathers was awesome.

Rumour? Danged internet lying to me again.
Frankenweenie? is that the one with the kid from Stand By Me who revives his dog? That's on...er...Nightmare Before Xmas I think, along with Vincent.

But yeah, soon as he makes The Addams Family it's all over for him.
I can't think of anybody else, 'cept Michael Bay, who just keeps remaking the same movie over and over.

Maybe Thing will toss him off? I bet he wouldn't even smile.

Actually that's a just rumour at the mo, Goats, and Burton has denied it. Apparently people were getting confused with his actual next project: a remake of Frankenweenie, a short stop-motion film he made for Disney in 1984. Way to go back to your roots, big guy.

Personally, I think a live-action Addams Family, with Helena Bonham Carter as Morticia and Johnny Depp as EVERYONE ELSE is the ultimate Burton movie. He might as well retire after that.

Anybody pick up on Burton's next movie?

Ready? You'll never believe it, ready?
A stop-motion version of?.......The Addams Family
*slow clap*

Way to expand your artistic ability there Gothy.

Watched this the other day, and couldn't disagree more.
I really enjoyed it and would watch it again.

Whilst it was to a certain degree Burton by numbers, there's nothing wrong with that. Everyone's slightly distorted features, the glorious colours, a Mad Scottish Hatter reciting The Jaberwocky...
Yes. It was very good. I chortled.

2 stars indeed.

Nothing beats the old animated version. Did Burton do that recent revamp of Charlie & The Chocolate Factory? That looked like the same sort of thing - layers of colour with little depth.

Or as Camille so eloquently puts it, a "colourful pile of shit"...

Edit: oops should have read the review properly.

I could have predicted 90% of this movie before I even started watching it. There's even a Christopher Lee voice cameo.

And something about the way it looks is just ugly, really not nice to look at. You think the least Burton could do would make a Wonderland film look... well, wonderful.

And as usual, it's like somebody said to a
film student "go and make a Tim Burton version" and they tried but failed.

This is, I think, the main difference between Tim Burton and say, Terry Gilliam. While The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus used CG and weird colours/universe and combined it with a powerful and original story whereas this just seems like a shallow "look what I can do" pile of colourful shit.

I've been invited twice to see this and both times I've said no. Burton hasn't made a decent film since Sleepy Hollow, and I've always considered myself a Burton fan.

You know exactly what this will look like and how the characters will behave.
As said, Burton makes the same film over and over. Teen goths will love it, everybody else will shrug.

Echo the comments below, really disappointed but not surprised. Last movie of his I really enjoyed was Big Fish.

I'm so disappointed. I'm still going to see it, but I might not wear my full costume.
