Behold: The Nicolas Cage Matrix

Behold: The Nicolas Cage Matrix
As Drive Angry revs its engine and readies to crash itself into our lives, it's time to consider the bigger picture: just how are you supposed to categorise Nicolas Cage movies? Which ones are good? Which ones are bad? Which ones are so bad they're good? Behold, the answer: The Nicolas Cage Matrix.

I was ABOUT to go off on you for not recognizing the genius in Vampire's Kiss but axehammerUK beat me to it. The problem with this Matrix is that we seem not to be judging his performance in these films but to be judging the films themselves and even in a "rubbish" film, Nic Cage saves it with a great performance...albiet sometimes an over the top cracked-out one.

Vampire's Kiss should be side by side in the upper right with Bad Lieutenant. Watch the DVD with director's commentary if you have any doubt. Although Wicker Man was a "rubbish" film, I'm going to have to say that Nicolas Cage did a great job acting in it. He just makes bad choices...in general... What movies to remake, what movies to Executive Produce, what misogynistic director / screen writer to ruin a classic original film that you're executive producting, at what point to take off the bear suit... what to name your kid... how many castles to buy to keep your comic book collections in.... BAD CHOICES sometimes.

I also agree with Pandaemonium - Wicker Man deserves its own Matrix and yeah... WTF is Raising Arizona doing on the "serious" side?

HMPH.

You are full of "it". Vampire's Kiss should be ranked equally with Bad Lieutenant (Not LEFT-tenant. You English types need to learn the language) :|

Wow, what??

Setting aside qualitative judgements (Lord of War deserves to be far higher than middle-of-the-range, but whatevs).. how does Raising Arizona end up on the "not-crazy" side of the X axis? How about Lord of War? And.. Leaving-Frigging-Las-Vegas is at the extreme not-mental side??? Just the concept alone should put it at least in the middle.

I was glad to see Wicker Man exactly where it belongs though.

I think Ali and Luke started off the reviews.

Fuck, yeah. Nic did seem a bit confused. Also, it looked like he might just grab this small oscar-like thing and start smashing this moustache guy in his face, making a blood pulp of it. Uneasy feeling, that watching was. Still, fucking awesome. Matrix was given as the FIRST example of viral awesomeness. WELL DONE, GUYS.

Paul Ross Amazon canvas thing?
Luke
Posted by Luke at 17:39 on 26/02/11
I know, but he seemed a bit confused by the whole internet thing.

Is now a cool time to take responsibility for that whole Paul Ross Amazon canvas thing? Because that was us. In fact, I promised I'd buy it for Ali if he ever mentioned it on TV. Also Ali strictly forbade me from getting it as a wedding gift, haha his face - he was 100% deadly serious.

That's awesome, the man himself has been made aware of The Nicolas Cage Matrix.
Congrats.

This matrix is simply too magnificent for words. "Drive Angry" will most likely end up in the upper left hand corner of the rubbish quadrant, but I could be wrong.

I just watched Knowing. I think it's more rubbish than that. Definitely crazy, but a different kind of crazy. Complete logic fail. And a great way of using his kid to chat up women. Unbelievable. I have no idea what they were thinking with the last 45 minutes of that movie.

I can't help but notice the absence of "Guarding Tess." I love that movie. My suggestion: right above "The Weather Man."

For those of you that want to see Cage in short shorts being pulled over by the police whilst in a go cart...

Excellent man.

I love the face/off head shot... right the way over there in mental land.

Wow, the man's face is the same throughout all the years. It's amazing how his face has retained its plasticity. And he's lucky his face never got "stuck like that".

You should add ALL of those different Cage heads to the images in the little circle in the top corner.

Just wanted to remind to those who might have forgotten the fact that Nic named his son Kal-El. Of course, this does not change the matrix which is fucking awesome, I just wanted you to remember, that after Nic passes away (I mean, assuming he is mortal), his legacy will be taken over by Kal-El Cage. Fuck, yeah.

Luke: when you manage to make that thingie with morphing Cage (possibly animation thingie?), I want to be the first to download it and make it my Screen Saver Forever.

My main issue with this is that really it should be all the heads morphed into one, spread over the width of the entire canvas and dripping off the sides.

Watched Vampire's Kiss the other day. That is one mental film.

I'd definitely put The Wicker Man on it's own matrix. It's in a different class to all the other movies listed there.
