I thought it was fun. I went in there expecting little more that Jason popping up and slashing away, and that's what I got. There was no needless exploration of the psyche of Jason or anything, and the characters were a ridiculously cliched paint by numbers bunch, but I appreciated that it didn't try to be anything different. I'm glad they didn't go down the Scream road, and have someone spouting 'the rules'.

Still, I'd only stretch to an extra star, but thought it was more enjoyable than the Halloween remake, and certainly better than the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake.

Interesting point about this type of slasher movie being 'inferior' - they rarely try to be anything different, and people always seem willing to go see them, I guess sometimes something this basic, with all the jumps in all the right places is all I want - I wonder if raising the standard of writing, the characterisation etc is even possible in this genre without losing its appeal..?
