Review: Predators

Predators
The first thing any writer must do when they begin to pen their latest action odyssey is probably sigh, and resign themselves to the fact that, whatever film they end up writing, it won't be half as good as Predator. What Robert Rodriguez has done, by adapting his original 1994 script (written before both AvP debacles), is turn that theory on its head intentionally: with Predators, it almost seems like he's tried to make a movie exactly half as good as Predator. And that's fine by me.

Anyone noticed that in the trailer Brody was being aimed at with bazillion laser thingies whereas in the actual film were only 3?

And the film was so-so. I hoped for ending taken from an old comic book 'Batman vs Predator', with harakiri ending. Anyways, Laurence lines were the best element of the film.

Not bad at all. Ending was a bit naff, and it was basically a string of references to the other Predator movies, but enjoyable enough. Just don't go in expecting the original and you'll be entertained.

Adrien Brody is the skinniest muscly man in the world.

And yeah, it was a 15.

It was rated 15 wasn't it...?

Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed it (until it turned itself off mid-Fishburne cameo for 10 minutes after someone tripped a fire alarm). It's choc full of references which I was loving, just a shame my mate is less informed (after someone describes the entire plot of the first film he leant over and asked "Is that a reference to the first film?")

It is essentially a remake of Predator, as the review states there is moment after moment directly taken from the original, but it was quality in 1987 and it's still quality now.

Thought this was an enjoyable way to pass this time, and much better than Predator 2 and the AvP cinematic abortions. It was nice just to watch an action movie that wasn't always pulling out special effects or using shaky cam and just let things happen, although sometimes it did feel like things were included because the original did it, and not because it really added to anything. Was secretly praying Danny Glover would make a cameo though, and Brody's voice was about 2 Clint Eastwoods's above Batman's in the 'believable gruff voice scale'.

Really looking forward to seeing this. It sounds as though the film isn't as slick as I had hoped, but dumb fun action still gets a thumbs up from me.

I feel a bit 'spoiler'-ed though. It's my own fault for reading...
