Review: Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time

Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time
Movie rule of thumb #1: if Jerry Bruckheimer's name is on the poster, check your brain in with your coat. Prince Of Persia is typically undemanding summer blockbuster fare - all SFX and stylish set-pieces, but very little in the way of substance. I'm not complaining. These movies have their place. But if you're making a big, dumb movie that invites you to switch off and enjoy, then don't over complicate the plot - Pirates Of The Caribbean did it and Prince Of Persia does it too. It's a Bruckheimer trait.

This is the first film "based" on a computer game that was watchable and quite enjoyable. Even "Jake-begging-puppy-eyes-Gyl-fuck-I-don't-have-time-to-check-his-name" wasn't as annoying as I had expected.

Michael is a rent boy? Does this mean I can pay him to go and feed the birds at St.Pauls? Then pay him to go and cause all kinds of havoc at the bank Jane works at? I think I just found a new life aim...

Does it ever! Michael is a rent boy on The Strand, and Jane is a (god, I can't believe it but it's true...) Jane is a banker. A banker. THE HORROR.

Special Edition Blur-ay? Colour me excited. Does it also show the horror that has become the lives of the children who were in it?

That's because Bert is from Australia. It's in a cut scene on the special edition blu-ray.

So glad I'm not the only person who was weirded out by the lack of accents in enemy at the gates. Somehow Jude Law and Rachel Weisz's posh accents just completely removed me from the film. Although I completely accept Dick van Dyke's accent in Mary Poppins.

I agree, Pand. It's not exactly aimed at Middle-Eastern audiences, so what's the problem.

Best examples of this are The Three Musketeers and The Man in the Iron Mask. Always watch those when they're on.

@Nick.

Personally I prefer no accent than a shitty put on one. Having said that, "Enemy at the gates" still remains extremely weird with Hoskins as full Cockney doing a Russian general.

I'd also be more concerned that a Middle Eastern prince is cast as a white guy If I was under the impression that Hollywood are in any way shape of form interesting in creating a documentary as opposed to some throwaway entertainment.

[edit] Sorry, that comes across as arsey. I'm not meaning to be, but somne on, it's not the first movie that doesn't accurately reflect ethnicity. :D

If it's Prince of Persia, which I'm assuming is old world Persia, how come I've been hearing something about a modern cock-er-nee accent from Gill...Gyl... Jake?

Prince of Persia has street-dancing in?~
Awesome, I'm there. If only it were in 3D

Well I certainly wasn't expecting that.

The only contests here are on the mcse dance floor with rival “crews” squaring up for supremacy in the UK Street Dance Championships. The appealing heroine is Carly (Nichola Burley), a waitress from the North who suddenly finds herself in charge of a crew after leader Jay (Ukweli Roach), her boyfriend, unexpectedly quits.

I cannot muster enthusiasm for this at all, from the 1st trailer you know exactly what you're getting and nothing more.
