Hey you, Hollywood! Are you cutting a trailer for your new action thriller or whatever? Do you want to signify dark, brooding menace and impending doom? You need Inception HornĀ®! It's the whacked-out sound effect everybody's using!
I remembered one video game that had the BRAHM. It was the E3 trailer for INVERSION. To me, the trailer looked like the hallway fight scene from INCEPTION, just extended to outside.
Here's a contrast of "its better than the alternative." Suppose Summer 2011 - Summer 2012 is the trend of the "Apollo 18 Fart" as is heard at the very end of this trailer... http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi881368089/
It's a plot point that they listen to the song to wake them up, and that time is interpreted differently the more dreams you go into, hence slowing down the song. But it only slows it to half speed, then quarter speed - it's still recognisable as that song.
I need to watch it again, then I'll explain what I meant.
It's made crystal clear at one point though, I'm sure. That's why I didn't get the amazement that came later. Or maybe...maybe it was incepticised into me?
It's not obvious in the slightest! If you're telling me you knew the main musical motif of Inception was based on a slowed-down version of the Edith Piaf song, you're a bloody liar.
You do hear the song slowed down as part of the plot, but not slowed down so much you'd make the connection to the score.
And yeah, it's definitely worth a rewatch - still my favourite film of last year.
I didn't get why everyone lost their shit over it being slowed down - you hear the music at normal speed all the time during the film, surely it's just...obvious?
Need to watch it again actually, see if my opinion (average) has changed.
Aye, should have mentioned that. But Hans Zimmer composed the score, which also uses Inception Horn. Quite a well known fact already, but the big double BRAAM-BRAAAMs are actually the opening notes of Edith Piaf's Non Je Ne Regrette Roir slowed-down to a crawl. Exceedingly clever.
You know, I think it should be cleared up that it was Zack Hemsey that composed the trailer music, not Mr Zimmer, although it's easy to mistake it for his style. It's called Mind Heist, and it's almost kinda sad that he doesn't get credited for it because his Empty Room album is pretty damn good and worth a listen.
There you go Zack, hopefully that makes up a bit for you barely ever getting credit
