Blogalongabond #17: GoldenEye

Luke

30th May 2012

Another month, another Bond, another chance to pit yourself against the most challenging in gaming experiences (that we could come up with over a couple of lunch breaks). Keep your eyes on the skies, and don't let the GoldenEye find your weakness!

Oh my God the 90's. Curtain haircuts, spliffy jeans and The Spice Girls; it was a terrible decade to be a human being or a woman. If only there were some sort of avatar we could collectively project our fears for the way things are turning out onto, and then beat to death with girl pow- oh hi James, didn't see you there! The joke about GoldenEye is that they spend forever telling Bond he's a sexist pig and things are going to be different now there's a woman in charge, then put him up against an improbably foxy female villain with some sort of terrifying addiction to violence and sex. The same condition Steven Seagal suffers from, I believe.

I didn't think it was all that amazing and the topical references that usually come with the series were a bit confusing is what I'm trying to say - a bit tiresome, even with a refreshed Bond. Although real film people seem to hold it in quite high regard. Anyway the game. Oh, games. Games Bond. I tried to make something vaguely reminiscent of GoldenEye on the N64, but that turned out to be too complicated so settled for this rip of Missile Command instead. All you need to do is move your mouse to deflect missiles. First person to say GoldenEye shot EMPs and not missiles is a benny. Enjoy!

Blogalogabond is a monthly celebration of all things James Bond, run by friend of the site The Incredible Suit (aka Neil Alcock). Each month showcases the next Bond film in the series, hopefully coinciding with the release of the 23rd Bond movie, Skyfall. You can follow Neil on twitter here, or the official Blogalongabond feed here.
