This week sees the release of How to Lose Friends and Alienate People, starring Simon Pegg as Sidney Young, a fictionalised version of a British journalist who made his fortune by faux pas-ing his way around the Big Apple. Pegg is the quintessential English man in New York, our favourite affable Brit and hero to the comic book nerd inside us all. Here are five reasons to join our joyous chorus and exclaim - Simon Pegg, we salute you!

5. WHAT A WANKER
BIG TRAIN (2002, TV)
Here's our man valiantly fighting the fascist anti-wanking brigade, offering conclusive proof that a healthy office masturbation policy improves employee morale and productivity. We strongly recommend that you put the pro-wanking case to your boss on Monday.



4. HUDDLE TIME!
BLACK BOOKS (2004, TV)
The Pegg popped up in series three of Black Books for a David Brent inspired cameo as the manager of the big bad Goliath Books. This is about as close as Pegg gets to being a baddie, stealing Manny away from Bernard and threatening to put Black Books out of business. Booo we say! (But we don't really mean it, Simon).



3. EAT SHOE, GRANDMA
HOT FUZZ (2007)
In homage to action buddy movies, Pegg plays super cop Nicholas Angel who is transferred to a village with a non-existent crime rate. But behind the manicured lawns and topiary, the "friendly locals" ain't so friendly. Here we see Pegg facing a particularly formidable foe. In. Your. Face.



2. DON'T STOP HIM NOW
SHAUN OF THE DEAD (2004)
Ever wondered how to kill a zombie? Apparently beating them repeatedly with a snooker cue, socking them one with a fire extinguisher, puncturing their flesh with darts then smashing their head into a jukebox does the trick. Accompaniment by Queen is obligatory.

SPACED (1999, TV)
In the beginning, in the early days of Pegg, there was Spaced - a TV show should probably appear in any top five, on any subject. Here we see feckless stoner Tim and wannabe writer Daisy take on a gang of youths in the only way they know how: by testing out the unspoken male telepathy and love of fictional gunfights...
