5. OFFICE SPACE (1999) |
MICHAEL BOLTON (DAVID HERMAN) |
The situation: Office drone Michael Bolton is forced to defend his reasons for refusing to change his name, given that he shares it with a lame, straggly-haired crooner. The insult: "There was nothing wrong with it... until I was about 12 years old and that no-talent ass clown became famous and started winning Grammys." Why it rules: Because it coined the term 'ass clown'. And it's true. |
4. BILLY MADISON (1994) |
PRINCIPA L MAX ANDERSON (JOSH MOSTEL) |
The situation: Forced to win a pop quiz to graduate high school, man-child Billy Madison (Adam Sandler) answers a question on the Industrial Revolution with an allegory from a children's book. The insult: "Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul." Why it rules: A simple 'wrong' would have sufficed. But it wouldn't have made this list. |
3. RAGING BULL (1980) |
JAKE LAMOTTA (ROBERT DENIRO) |
The situation: Boxing champ Jake LaMotta spars with his little brother Joey but can't feel the punches landing. The insult: "You punch like you take it up the ass!" Why it rules: There can't be many more emasculating insults out there: not only does his brother enjoy anal pleasures but he fights like a girl, too. |
2. GOODFELLAS (1990) |
BILLY BATTS (FRANK VINCENT) |
The situation: Mob cohorts come to blows when Batts reminds Joe Pesci's unhinged psycho of his shoe-shining childhood. Not cool, dude. The insult: "Go home and get your fucking shine box." Why it rules: It was the last cool thing Billy Batts ever did. |
1. BLADE: TRINITY (2004) |
HANNIBAL KING (RYAN REYNOLDS) |
The situation: Ass-kicking Nightstalker Hannibal calmly explains to Parker Posey's vampire exactly how she's going to die. "That's atomized colloidal silver you're breathing," he says. "It's being pumped through the building's air conditioning system," before adding... The insult: "You cock-juggling thunder-cunt!" Why it rules: Dumbstruck. That's what we were. We can understand the 'cock juggling', but 'thunder-cunt'? Simply inspired. |
