I love horror movies but in my opinion the best ones were made in the seventies. All time favourite? Halloween. Why? Cos it is simple and effective .... and did not need seven sequels .. and don\'t get me started on remakes. It\'s the age old discussion of where all the original ideas in hollywood have gone. Re-imagining of a classic ... bollocks. Basically means we\'ll use the same script, give everyone a mobile phone and give in a score with a thumping base line. In recent years the only film I felt lived up to the 70\'s horror genre was the original SAW ... I thought it was a brilliant idea and like HALLOWEEN, it was simple and effective. And successful so therefore spawning a couple of sequels. HAven\'t seen three yet though? so probably shouldn\'t comment until I have.
I too wonder what happened to the scares. Laughable violence, copious blood and obligatory nudity are things that do not scare me ... what happened to the scares. Did anyone happen to see the trailer for \"horrorfest\" that was held in the states last year? \"Eight movies to die for\" previously banned for being to scary and released at the local multiplex? The trailer was disturbing but it was probably all in the editing.
Pandemonium recommends \"Pan\'s Labyrinth\" I thought the trailers looked very interesting .. I shall check it out if you rate it so highly my friend.
