In this week's episode of 'Great Directors Who Need The Occasional Huge Paycheque', Darren Aronofsky is in the frame to direct Wolverine 2. He also drops some interesting truth nuggets on Black Swan and The Wrestler.
Darren Aronofsky is a guy who's hard to dislike. He makes huge, epic movies that somehow feel uncomfortably personal and intimate: if you missed Pi, Requiem For A Dream or The Fountain, you're about to lose the Aronofsky-themed trivia dance-off we're about to have. (*lays out mat, turns on boombox*)
It was kind of strange when he put himself in the mix to direct the forthcoming remake of Robocop, but you figured he'd find something interesting to do with the material. Y'know... the future... robots... it'd probably be a metaphor for abortion or the Armenian economy or something.
Well, sadly, that never came to pass. Aronofsky, however, may well be angling for the director's chair on Wolverine 2. Why? Snikt if I know. I'm guessing the gold-plated dump truck full of diamond-encrusted 'D-MONEY' sovereign rings parked on his front lawn has something to do with it. That, or, like, the texture of the characters or some shit.
Back on planet Earth, Aronofsky has revealed the forthcoming Kafka-esque ballet drama Black Swan and the superb comeback tale The Wrestler were actually one movie, once upon a time. He told MTV:
