I think I preferred the Todd McFarlane bondage version with Dakota Fanning.
Pajiba are reporting an exclusive that Drew Barrymore is to direct, and possibly star, in a sequel to The Wizard Of Oz called Surrender Dorothy. Skeptical? Me too. I only included the banner picture of her kissing Ellen Page because it was the last interesting thing she did.
The sequel, written by Stranger Than Fiction (oh yeah?) and Mr Magorium's Wonder Emporium (oh, yeah) scribe Zach Helm, sees the Wicked Witch of the West come back to modern day New York to hunt down Dorothy's great great-granddaughter and get her ruby slippers back for good. There's probably more to it but the cigarette packet it was written on is pretty small.
I can understand how classic stories occasionally need to be repackaged and tarted up for new generations to enjoy, but I'm already sick to death of The Wizard Of Oz spin-offs and I neither watch primetime BBC nor go to the theatre. (*flexes muscles*)
Sam Mendes is writing up Oz The Great And Powerful, which is a prequel starring Robert Downey Jr as the young Wizard, while I'm presuming Todd McFarlane is still painting the tin models for his 'darker' take on Oz mythology. It's surely only a matter of time before Tim Burton fires up his reimagination and destroys the legacy for good.
