Pixar's Brave (originally titled The Bear And The Bow) was to be their first film directed by a woman, but it looks like that might not be the case any longer.
Rumour has it that the fine folks at Pixar have dropped director Brenda Chapman from their upcoming film, Brave. There's no word as to why Chapman has been dumped, but now that the news is out, there will probably be a statement released from the studio soon. Let the rumours begin: Pixar is run by misogynistic asshole sexist women-haters.
Brave is a milestone for the animation giant, as it also boasts the first female lead in a Pixar feature. The film tells the story of a Scottish princess named Merida (voiced by Reese Witherspoon), who uses her above-average archery skills to save her father's kingdom from a peril that she inadvertently unleashes upon it.
Pixar is arguably the one studio that has the most consistent track record in terms of quality, so Brave carries with it a lot of expectations. It's disappointing that they dropped Chapman from the film, but there could be any number of good reasons for the change. After all, these guys know their shit, and they don't mess around when it comes to making movies. Guys being the operative word.
