Spielberg involved with Halo movie?

Peter Jackson ditched his take on the Halo movie after realising he didn't have enough Microsoft points to raise the budget. Fledgling director Neill Blomkamp picked himself up, dusted himself off and went and made District 9 instead. But is Steven Spielberg about to give the Master Chief mouth-to-mouth?
It's speculation time. IESB are suggesting that the 'Berg may well revive the aborted Halo movie franchise, albeit on production duties only. Spielberg allegedly got excited after reading a script treatment by Stuart Beattie, called Halo: The Fall Of Reach.
Obviously the bearded one has close ties with Peter Jackson - the pair are both putting the finishing touches to TinTin - and Spielberg has shown an interest in videogame properties before. He's even put his name to a number of titles, including - bizarrely - a Wii game called Boom Blox. I presume the Blox all have daddy issues.
Anyway, I think we can all agree that a Halo movie with Spielberg involved on any level can only be a good thing. I'm off to see Neill Blomkamp's District 9 next week so it'll be interesting to see what could have been - check out his awesome live-action Halo 3 promo below.
