Tom Cruise gets a Les Grossman spin-off movie

Because if a 2-minute cameo is funny, a 90-minute version of the same thing must be hilarious. That's not opinion - that's science.
It has been confirmed that Tom Cruise will reprise his Tropic Thunder character, belligerent egomaniac Hollywood producer Les Grossman, in his own movie. Basically, the sofa-jumping scientologist has discovered a popular role for the first time in 15 years and wants to milk the sucker dry.
But just how popular is his new incarnation? Sure, his short stint in Ben Stiller's movie-within-a-movie comedy was a highlight...but mainly because it was unbelievable to see Cruise acting like a dick. On purpose, at least.
But now we know the joke going in and, if the recent MTV Movie Awards was anything to go by, Cruise can't offer us anything new with the character. In fact, after 10 minutes of watching him gyrate in a fat suit next to J-Lo, he just started to look like an embarrassing dad. Everyone laugh nervously and talk among yourselves - eventually he'll wear himself out and stop.
So how will a whole film work? My guess is they'll cram it full of Hollywood cameos and it will play like a movie version of Ricky Gervais' Extras. Stand on the 'X', Mr A-lister, and let Tom Cruise make fun of your hair. Comedy gold.
