  • Review: The Two Popes entertains, occasionally enlightens

    Movie Review | Luke Whiston | 15th January 2020

They're just two normal fellas, these guys. Sure they live in gigantic palaces and take part in rituals affecting the lives of millions of people based on doctrines written hundreds of years ago in the belief a giant bearded ghost man watches everything you do in the bathroom, but they like a pint just like you and I. Who cares if you're expected to bow and kiss their ring to show respect else you'll go to hell if they like to watch the big match? They're just two normal fellas. Two normal fellas in charge of a 2000-year-old nonce festival.

  • The Salvation

    Movie Review | Ed Williamson | 22nd April 2015

Now that everything is at least 140 minutes long, I applaud any film that does its thing for an hour and a half, gets the job done then fucks off home. The content of those 90 minutes is irrelevant really. It could be a dead goose for an hour then a man eating a Bounty for the rest. So well done, The Salvation, Danish western that you somehow are, for not hanging around too long. And for being generally all right in a forgettable sort of a way, too.

  • G.I. Joe: Retaliation

    Movie Review | Matt | 27th March 2013

When this movie was pulled from release last summer weeks before it was due to hit cinemas, the internet was rife with theories about why. Was it just because the studio decided to post-convert to grab a slice of the 3D pie? Or did Channing Tatum become such a big star that reshoots were necessary to pad out his role in the film? Whatever the reason, it's safe to say that the subsequent nine months were NOT spent trying to make sure that this baffling, ridiculous juggernaut of mindlessness made a lick of sense. Because, despite having an extra nine months to somehow improve on itself, G.I. Joe: Retaliation ended up providing some of the most fun I have ever had watching one of the worst films I have ever seen.
