Baywatch
Movie Review | Ed Williamson | 24th May 2017
One of the many wonderful things about living on the same planet as Zac Efron is that he knows when and how to take his shirt off. It is a rare talent to look like he does with his abs out, accept that directors are going to want him to get his top off at least twice a film, and then to do so with enough of a sense of self-mockery that you don't think he's an absolute bell-end. Self-awareness is what got him and his co-star The Rock where they are today, and so a riff on Baywatch, sending up how daft it was, feels like just the ticket. So why isn't it sillier?

Daddy's Home
Movie Review | Ed Williamson | 18th December 2015
I have it. The secret of comedy. That which even the greats could not bottle and sell. Get a comedy actor guy, right, and stick him in a film with a serious actor guy, right, but then the SERIOUS actor guy says funny things too. See, Spy! Ride Along! 21 Jump Street! And now ... oh, wait.

Top 10 TV shows of 2014
TV Feature | Ed Williamson, Rob Young, Christopher Ratcliff, Iain Robertson, Ali Gray, Luke Whiston | 31st December 2014
What's that? No, there never used to be 20 shows in our end-of-year lists. You're imagining things. OK, maybe that's partially true. Fine, it's entirely true. But trust me, this is a bold new way of doing the traditional yearly round-up, and in no sense a way for me to spend more time eating cake and less time writing over Christmas.

Top 20 TV shows of 2013
TV Feature | Ed Williamson, Matt Looker, Rob Young, Luke Whiston, Iain Robertson, Neil Alcock | 31st December 2013
In years to come, we will remember 2013 as the year everything changed. Danny Dyer is now in Eastenders, and across the land all else has ceased to matter. But look upon the works of this medium, now so wholly transformed, and you will see more than this. And you might think it handy that some berk put it all in a list and bid you read it.

Making Mads Mikkelsen less terrifying
TV Feature | Ed Williamson | 28th August 2013
Quite by chance, I have tonight discovered something that makes me a lot less scared of Mads Mikkelsen. In fact, he's a gigantic pussy and I could definitely have him.

Shower off the stink of The Following with two great things
TV News | Ed Williamson | 30th April 2013
I know, it was horrific. But it's over now. And Hannibal's first season and Justified's fourth begin on Sky Living and 5USA next week. Trust me, good TV is just around the corner. Pick yourself up and start again.

My favourite arguments on Wikipedia TV show talk pages
TV Feature | Ed Williamson | 16th April 2013
Wikipedia talk pages are a rare kind of douchebag magnet, in that they offer a platform of legitimacy for some of the very worst people on the internet.

Nine things you need to know about Hannibal
TV Feature | Ed Williamson | 18th February 2013
Obviously, "need to know" is a bit of a stretch. You don't need to know them in the sense that you'll be at risk of losing your job or home if you don't, nor will your children be taken into care because of the danger in which you've placed them through your ignorance. But this is how you write features on the internet: put everything in a list.
