Meet your new Superman

Krypton has a new favourite son and Henry Cavill aka The Unluckiest Man In Hollywood has finally caught a break.
Not only am I relieved that a frankly quite boring casting saga has finally been resolved (turns out there's no shortage of attractive white males in Hollywood), there's a pleasing circularity to Cavill's casting. He was allegedly among the final contenders for the last Superman gig in 2006, narrowly missed out on Christian Bale's role in Batman Begins and came within one wonky bowtie of being cast as James Bond in Casino Royale.
Then again, he was also Stephanie Meyers' first choice to play Edward in the Twilight saga, so consider that a bullet dodged. Bullet-dodging is not something Cavill needs to worry about as the new Superman (now that's what I call a segue), as Zack Snyder's new take on The Man Of Steel will start production in the summer.
In the meantime, here's some Henry Cavill trivia from his IMDb page:
- "He has four brothers and a pet parrot."
- "He has worked with the young actor Joe Sowerbutts three times."
- "Never leaves home without money, credit cards and his passport."
Okay, so the guy doesn't sound all that interesting yet, but we're sure the new Superman movie will kickstart a long and varied career for him, just like it did for the last guy, Bradley Ruth. Some people have been saying he could be the new Joe Sowerbutts, you know.
