  • Top 10 films of our lifetime #1: No Country For Old Men

    Movie Feature | Ali Gray | 26th September 2014

There were many factors that went into deciding the Top 10 Films Of Our Lifetime, but really, I pulled rank as Editor and decided pretty early doors that there was only ever going to be one #1 film. No Country For Old Men is a film that, from the first moment I saw it, made me appreciate film on a level higher than just 'good performances' and 'good story'. It made me want to investigate cinematographers, composers and screenwriters. It made me want to make movies and tell stories myself. But most of all, it made me want to watch it again. I hope you've enjoyed this countdown, because we've enjoyed putting it together. Normal service will resume shortly, I've got a pretty good Nicolas Cage Photoshop planned for next week - Ali.

  • The Family

    Movie Review | Ali Gray | 24th November 2013

Those awful people that weren't born until the nineties, or God forbid, the 'noughties' - what must they make of a man like Robert De Niro? Because even though you can buy his DVDs at your local newsagent and go online to download literally any movie he ever made in seconds flat, surely it's only fair to judge an actor on his recent output: say, from the last 20 years. De Niro has earned his right to be less choosy, obviously, and I'm not about to shit on the likes of Raging Bull, Goodfellas and The Deer Hunter, but The Family isn't so much indicative of a career slump as it is the kind of painfully average movie that makes you realise he's completely stopped caring.

  • Lincoln

    Movie Review | Ali | 20th January 2013

It shouldn't be this hard. It shouldn't be a chore to watch a film critics have described as "phenomenal", "indelible" and "masterly". The Lincoln awards screener disc - 'For Your Consideration in all categories', in case you hadn't guessed – has been sitting on a pile of DVDs this big for about a week now, and I've been avoiding it for just as long. The other day, I literally chose to watch Lockout* over Lincoln. That's the extent of my disinterest. However, circumstances conspired to make it today's sole viewing option – one snow-storm and one Netflix outage later, and Steven Spielberg's latest made its way onto the TV by default. Clearly the members of the Academy didn't share my apathy.

  • The five most under-developed plotlines in Men In Black 3

    Movie Feature | Ali | 26th May 2012

So I sort of reviewed Men In Black 3 last week and gave it a passable three stars, but there are still things that bug me about it which I'm going to share. I do, however, like that the picture above makes it look like Will Smith has two tiny white hands. Pew pew! He'll gitcha!

  • Men In Black 3D

    Movie Review | Ali | 16th May 2012

It's been ten years since the last underwhelming Men In Black movie and 15 long years since the brilliant original - and no one particularly asked to have it back. So... how does Men In Black 3D fare?

  • Note to Men In Black 3 writers: watch more South Park

    Movie News | Ali | 2nd May 2012

Dear Men In Black 3 writers. It has come to my attention that your new poster features a design that looks to have been influenced by a certain episode of South Park. You may wish to rethink this before release.

  • In the future, everyone will be famous for 1.5 seconds

  • Captain America: The First Avenger

    Movie Review | Ali | 22nd July 2011

Even next to Thor, a movie about a space god with a magic hammer, Captain America: The First Avenger was always going to be one of Marvel's trickiest properties to do justice to. Here's what amounts to my review, in musical form.

  • Films on TV round-up: one-armed men and one-man armies

    TV Feature | Ed Williamson | 22nd May 2011

Yeah, pretty clever headline, right? I almost got a job writing headlines for the Daily Mail once, but it fell through because I only knew three synonyms for 'gypsies'.

  • Alas, Smith and Jones come back for Men in Black 3D

    Movie News | Matt | 21st April 2010

Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are set to star in Men in Black 3D. Someone get me one of those memory-eraser silver pens - I have a feeling I'm going to need it.
