  • The Following: everyone's Bacon number to lower dramatically

    TV Video | Ed Williamson | 14th November 2012

Yep, Kevin Bacon's doing telly. Say, three new actors per episode, 23 episodes a year: by my calculations if it runs for more than five seasons even most people who work in Millets will have a Bacon number of 2.

  • Films on TV round-up: learn a trade, son, you'll go far

    TV Feature | Ed Williamson | 7th November 2011

Good old Film4. You can always rely on them to show ponderous films about lonely, maladjusted men in which not much actually happens at some unsociable hour of the morning.

  • Crazy Stupid Love

    Movie Review | Ali | 20th September 2011

Crazy Stupid Love is a movie that wants it all. It's a romcom that knows it's a romcom and wants you to know it knows it's a romcom. Characters reference popular movies and the clichés therein; by pointing out the elephants in the room, they're allowing us in on the joke. "Damn, love is crazy and stupid," they nudge and wink to us, but because they acknowledge the craziness and stupidity of movie romance, they assume they'll get away with it. Luckily for us, the characters of Crazy Stupid Love are so darn charming, they do.

  • Super

    Movie Review | Matt | 7th July 2011

We’ve had Thor, X-Men: First Class and Green Lantern already this year, showing us that the ‘comic-book movie’ is showing no signs of hanging up its cape. So a film that explores what it’s like to actually become a superhero in the real world is a refreshingly interesting take on the genre, isn’t it? Well, you wouldn’t think so in this post-Kick-Ass world, but Super is surprisingly great thanks to being even more realistic-ier.

  • Films on TV round-up: gold heists, sleepless nights and big fights

    TV Feature | Ed Williamson | 3rd July 2011

It's Sunday and I've got a hangover. Don't suppose The Hangover's on this week, is it? No? Right, that's that angle fucked, then.

  • Films on TV round-up: sins, Sean and cyborgs

    TV Feature | Ed Williamson | 19th June 2011

I never end up watching any of these myself, you know. But if just one of you finds a new film you come to love after reading these weekly round-ups, isn't it all worth it just for that? Well, no, frankly. It takes fucking ages.

  • 5 things I learned from the X-Men: First Class press conference

    Movie Feature | Matt | 1st June 2011

Last week I was afforded the opportunity to attend the X-Men: First Class press conference, allowing me to go eyeball-to-eyeball with all the stars: James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Kevin Bacon, Lenny Kravitz's daughter and the guy who makes tornados come out of his hands that can't really speak much English.

  • X-Men: First Class

    Movie Review | Matt | 25th May 2011

With Brett ‘The Hitman’ Ratner killing off half the characters in X-Men: The Last Stand, it’s no surprise that the franchise had to be rebooted, but do we really need to see a Bash Street Kids version of the mutant superheroes? And what can it tell us that we don’t already know? Well, how about the fact that Magneto used to be a globe-trotting Bond-a-like and Xavier was a beer-chugging ladies man? Admit it, Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart suddenly seem much more interesting…

  • X-Men First Class: a guide to sitting

    Movie Feature | Ali | 17th May 2011

Worried X-Men: First Class might be too exciting? Let Professor Xavier and his mutant brethren show you how to relax in style.

  • Super trailer, bro

    Movie Trailer | Ali | 7th March 2011

If Kick-Ass and Special and Defendor didn't already exist, this would probably be the most original superhero movie ever made.
