Even though the first film was called
Final Destination and the last film was called
The Final Destination, neither of those destinations were reached with any convincing degree of finality. Final Destination 5 might be more of the same - more gore and LOLs than a deadly ROFLcopter crash - but it's proof that sometimes if you flog a horse to within an inch of its life, it'll get up and start running again.

Thought last year's The Final Destination was the final Final Destination? Wrong. Final Destination 5 is way more final than The Final Destination. And that's final. Although obviously it's not.

There's a simple formula to stick to when making a Final Destination movie. One: find yourself some young, unknown American TV actors. Two: one of them must have a gruesome vision of their own death, dragging their mates down with them. Three: they cheat death. Four: the ol' Grim Reaper starts picking them off one by one in various weird and wonderful ways. And if you fancy it, throw in some boobs. Roll credits.

The horror genre is already one that can be sliced up in a variety of different ways; there's the slasher flick, the splatter and grindhouse exploitation sub-genres, the more cultured 'psychological' thrillers, the recent worrying trend of 12A sanitised horror movies... the list goes on and on as the genre continues to diversify...
