  • Mandy

    Movie Review | Matt Looker | 10th October 2018

Another year, another London Film Festival, another annual peruse of the festival programme choosing films that sound fascinating in theory without really knowing what to expect in practice. Take Mandy, for example, which the programme describes as “a film so singular, perverse and beguiling, it’s almost impossible to define”. Ok... maybe try though? “Think of the most exquisitely nightmarish LSD trip imaginable, then multiply it by ten”. Hmm, I have no idea how to do that, but it sounds interesting. Ok fine, I’ll see it. “Don’t just see Mandy, experience it”. WHAT IS THIS IS IT EVEN A FILM.

  • Mom & Dad

    Movie Review | Ali Gray | 26th February 2018

"They fuck you up, your Mum and Dad. They may not mean to, but they do." Philip Larkin couldn’t possibly have known his ode to parenthood would inspire a Nicolas Cage movie that scores full marks on the gurn-o-meter, but then Philip Larkin didn’t see Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance coming, either. Brought to you by Brian Taylor, one half of the ADD-addled braintrust behind Crank and its sequel, horror thriller Mom & Dad is another high voltage romp that burns energy like it’s jacked into the mains with no intention of paying the bill.

  • Snowden

    Movie Review | Matt Looker | 10th December 2016

There is a terrifying truth presented in Snowden, and I don't mean one of the obvious ones about misuse of power or unlawful global surveillance. It's one that comes early in the film and is only hinted at, but it is confirmation of a deep, dark, universal suspicion: that the incompetency you see in some of your work colleagues is a common problem that exists all the way up to the top. Like when Patrick from Legal doesn't process your request because he doesn't know the difference between an Excel spreadsheet and a Google doc. That kind of thing could very feasibly still happen at a top government level. Goddamn you, Patrick. Goddamn you, all the Patricks.

Said Cage: "What's the worst that could happen anyway?"

  • Today I learned: Dumb & Dumber could have been way more intense

    Movie Feature | Ali Gray | 20th February 2014

To reiterate: that's Nicolas Cage coming off the back of Deadfall, and Gary Oldman fresh off True Romance. I'm laughing already! (Via IMDB)

  • Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson pisses off co-stars with unequal name layout

Just fucking pick one - Curtis or 50 Cent. You are literally the worst thing to ever happen to graphic designers.

The rights for popular comic character Nicolas Cage have lapsed and will revert back to Marvel Studios, after Sony admitted they had no plans for any more Nicolas Cage movies.

  • The Croods

    Movie Review | Rob | 20th March 2013

The Croods raises some interesting questions. Such as: where can I find me some giant corncobs? What's up with that flying tortoise/parrot thing? Is it weird to be attracted to an animalistic red-headed cave girl who runs on all fours? And why can’t I stop staring at that dude's distractingly convincing CGI nipples? At least, these were my thoughts upon leaving the screening of this film. I hope for their sake that the children in attendance weren’t thinking the same as me.

  • Fresh Cagebeard spotted in wild

    Movie News | Ali | 7th February 2013

First image from David Gordon Green's Joe sees a rare shot of the Cagebeard in its natural inhabitat. Truly worthy of an elegiac Attenborough voiceover. (Full-size picture here).
