An ode to Secret Cinema presents William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet
Movie Feature | Matt Looker | 13th August 2018
It's probably no coincidence that my love affair with Secret Cinema peaks with their latest summer production, which presents a fully immersive experience with the world of Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet. Despite that, here is my fully objective and dispassionate critique of the opening night... presented in the form of a few adoring sonnets.

I have found my new favourite film poster tagline
Movie Feature | Matt Looker | 6th August 2018
Move over "An adventure 65 million years in the making". Step aside "In space no one can hear you scream". Get out of the way "One dream. Four Jamaicans. Twenty below zero." There's a new epic tagline in town.

Ranking all the Eddie Brock/Venom transformations so far
Movie Feature | Matt Looker | 3rd August 2018
Those new Venom trailers are something, eh? Lots of shots of Tom Hardy twitching, some nonsense science scenes and one truly excellent set-piece in which Hardy comes off his bike a bit and then uses his incredible alien powers to get back on his bike a bit. Still, at least we have some shots of the titular ET himself to gawk at and argue over.

7 things you didn't spot in the first-look photo of the new Terminator film
Movie Feature | Matt Looker | 1st August 2018
Whether you want it or not, Untitled Terminator Reboot is on the way. Arnie is back! Because lol. More importantly, James Cameron is back too! Now we just have to wait and see if his producer credit amounts to any more input than that time he tried to convince us all that Terminator: Genisys was a “Renaissance”. His actual word.

Discussion: Impossible - Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol (2011)
Movie Feature | Ali Gray, Matt Looker, Becky Suter, Ed Williamson | 1st August 2018
Look at all those colons! Our Mission: Impossible discussion has kicked into a higher gear, by which I mean we're scaling the lofty heights of Ghost Protocol, its incredible set-pieces, its rubbish villain and one very special false arm. Join us please, otherwise all this editing was pointless!

Analysing the cast signatures on that Guardians Of The Galaxy support letter
Movie Feature | Ali Gray | 31st July 2018
Touching scenes online this week, as the cast members of Marvel's Guardians Of The Galaxy series banded together in a show of support for fired director James Gunn, by co-signing a letter that almost but not quite called for his reinstatement. Gunn, a former Troma filmmaker and purveyor of questionable humour, was fired by Disney after a bunch of right-wing lunatics, led by lisping dong Mike Cernovich, dredged up a bunch of offensive ten year-old tweets and weaponised their fake outrage in order to punish the director for his outspoken liberal views. It’s all very 2018, but let’s focus on the real issue here: MOVIE STAR SIGNATURES!

Alternative ads for MUBI, the streaming service that thinks you're a prick
Movie Feature | Ali Gray | 30th July 2018
Before today, every mention I've ever heard of MUBI - the streaming service that specialises in independent films and classics - has been positive. Now, thanks to a snobbish new ad campaign, MUBI is a service that's even more despised than Amazon Prime. THAN AMAZON PRIME. You guys need a new marketing spin and I'm more than happy to help.

Deconstructing Pixar's Inside Out, the film I admire most
Movie Feature | Ali Gray | 29th July 2018
There are films that I loathe, there are films that I tolerate and there are films that I enjoy, but there are few films that I truly admire. With some movies I find it best you don't think too carefully how the sausage was made, because nothing spoils the illusion of cinema more than peeking behind the, uh, sausage curtain. Remember the pre-release behind the scenes photos of Robert Zemeckis' The Walk, that showed Joseph Gordon-Levitt doing a tightrope walk on a massive green plank? Cheers for saving me £12.50, idiots. Some movies, on the other hand, practically invite you to climb into the filmmaker's headspace; they want you to know just how much effort went into its creation. Pixar's Inside Out is one of those movies, where you can't help but marvel at the myriad thought processes that led to its genius inception and flawless execution. It's the movie I admire most and I still can't stop thinking about it.
